Professor disciplined for academic misconduct at Ekiti State University

In a significant development at Ekiti State University, Professor Edward Olanipekun, the Vice Chancellor, revealed that the institution has taken disciplinary action against a professor for alleged plagiarism. Speaking during the university’s convocation ceremony, Olanipekun emphasized the gravity of academic integrity and underscored the importance of upholding ethical standards in research and publication.

The professor in question faced repercussions for tampering with a collaborative research paper by replacing the name of a co-author with that of his wife before submitting it to another journal. This breach of academic honesty not only undermines the trust within scholarly communities but also tarnishes the reputation of the institution. Olanipekun reaffirmed the university’s commitment to maintaining academic standards and ensuring fairness and transparency in all scholarly endeavors.

Despite facing criticism and backlash, the university administration remains resolute in its decision to uphold disciplinary measures against the erring professor. Olanipekun emphasized that the sanctions imposed will endure beyond his tenure, signaling a firm stance against academic misconduct irrespective of changes in leadership.

In addition to addressing the issue of plagiarism, the convocation ceremony witnessed the conferral of an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Law upon Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, a former Minister of Health and Social Science. In his acceptance speech, Adelusi-Adeluyi commended the university for the honor bestowed upon him and took the opportunity to advocate for the operationalization of the Ekiti Airport. Highlighting the potential economic benefits and opportunities for growth that an airport would bring, he urged the state government to prioritize its establishment.

As Ekiti State University continues its pursuit of academic excellence and integrity, it remains vigilant against all forms of academic misconduct, including plagiarism. Upholding the values of honesty, fairness, and accountability, the institution remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a scholarly environment conducive to learning and innovation.
