Fatal tragedy: Deaths and coma reported after drinking concoction at Ondo festival
Two individuals tragically lost their lives, and another fell into a coma, following the consumption of a native concoction during the annual Ibogbe festival in the historic town of Ipe, located in the Akoko South East council area of Ondo State.
Sources revealed that Adu Johnson, one of the youths involved, is currently hospitalized after ingesting the same concoction as the deceased.
The victims, identified as Ojulewa Alex and Alonge Samuel, hailed from both Abuja and the local community.
The fatal concoction was reportedly prepared for the festival by a villager named Ojulewa, who happened to be a sibling of one of the victims.
According to eyewitnesses, Ojulewa and the deceased consumed the concoction, only to collapse hours later during the festival proceedings. They were said to have begun vomiting before succumbing to their demise.
Police spokesperson Funmi Odunlami confirmed the tragic deaths of the two youths as a result of consuming the native concoction during the annual festival. She stated that a local Chief lodged a complaint at the lsua police station regarding the incident.
Odunlami further elaborated that following the consumption of the concoction, the trio began vomiting, leading to the untimely demise of two individuals. The third victim was promptly rushed to the hospital upon falling into a coma.
The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to the mortuary for further investigation.
