The Federal Government has initiated steps to create a unified national blood database. This effort aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of blood banking services in Nigeria, ensuring a safer and more reliable blood supply for patients in need.

The National Blood Service Commission disclosed this in a press statement on Thursday. The announcement was made by the Director General of the commission, Prof Saleh Yuguda, during a collaborative meeting with a team from the African Medical Centre for Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja.

The AMCE team, led by Brian Deaver, is seeking to collaborate with the commission to identify areas for beneficial partnership. Prof Yuguda emphasized the necessity of research programs focused on blood services and hematology and expressed a strong commitment to the partnership with AMCE.

“This development marks a significant step forward for Nigeria’s healthcare system and underscores the government’s dedication to enhancing the quality of care for its citizens,” the statement noted. “The collaboration between the NBSC and the AMCE is expected to yield positive results, driving progress in the fields of blood service and hematology.”
