Davido, the Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, also known as David Adeleke, has achieved an African milestone on the US iTunes Albums Chart with his latest album ‘Timeless’. On April 5, 2023, the album claimed the top spot on the chart, setting a precedent as the first African album to reach Number 1 in the largest music market globally.
Davido’s ‘Timeless’ was launched on March 31, 2023, and features collaborations with notable Nigerian artists such as Asake, Fave, The Cavemen, DMW’s most recent additions, Morravey and Logos Olori. Additionally, Grammy-award-winning Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo, British rapper Skepta, South African music producer/DJ Musa Keys, Jamaican dancehall/reggae singer Dexta Daps, and South African rapper Focalistic also contributed to the album.
Davido’s album achieved impressive feats on various music platforms. It reached the second spot on the US Apple Music chart, making it the highest-charting album by an African artist on that platform. The album also set a new record on Audiomack for the largest number of streams on its first day.
Furthermore, Davido’s 17-track album created history by being the first and only afrobeats album to have all of its tracks debut in the top 100 on the UK Apple Music top songs chart.
Following the album’s release, Spotify announced that Davido’s music was the most streamed in several countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, France, and Nigeria
