The family of the man killed by the Inspector over N100 is visited by Delta police. The family of the man who was shot dead by Inspector Ebri Ubi in Asaba received a condolence visit from the Delta State Police Command.
According to the report, the state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ari Ali, along with Deputy Commissioner of Police Johnson Adenola, Police Public Relations Officer Bright Edafe, Asaba Area Commander, and other officials visited the family to offer their condolences. This visit followed the fatal shooting earlier in the week of Onyeka Ibe, a phone seller in the Ogbeogonogo market, by Inspector Ebri Ubi. The incident occurred in Asaba, the state capital, after Ibe allegedly refused to pay a bribe of N100.
During their visit, the officers expressed their condolences to the family for the wrongful killing of their son and assured them that the police force shares in their pain.
According to Adenola, Onyeka was well-known to many officers in the Command and was a friend of the police.
He expressed deep regret over Onyeka’s death and asserted that there was no justification for Inspector Ubi’s actions. Adenola also confirmed that Ubi had been arrested by the police and would be held accountable for his actions.
Adenola also assured the family that the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in charge of the zone, Ari Mohammed Ari, was committed to ensuring that justice was served. He stated that an internal disciplinary process had already begun and once concluded, the perpetrator would be arraigned without delay. The family expressed their gratitude to the police for their visit and reiterated their hope that the Command would ensure justice for their son.
