IGP orders the immediate arrest of Seun Kuti

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, has issued an order for the arrest the son of Fela Anikulapo, Seun Kuti, an Afrobeat musician who was recorded physically assaulting a police officer in uniform.

According to a statement released by Muyiwa Adejobi, the police spokesperson, the aforementioned incident took place in Lagos on Saturday.

Mr. Kuti is the youngest offspring of the renowned Afrobeat icon, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, who has since passed away.

A video that has been circulating on the internet depicts the singer striking an officer. Nonetheless, in the brief video, the law enforcement officer refrained from retaliating.

“The Inspector General of Police has directed a prompt and thorough investigation into the underlying factors that led to the assault, as well as the prosecution of the suspect in accordance with the law,” states the official communication.

“IGP Usman Alkali Baba assures Nigerians that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders of such hideous crimes will be surely brought to book.”

In response to the incident, Mr. Kuti took to his Instagram handle on Saturday evening to assert that he was the victim.

The individual made an accusation that the law enforcement officer attempted to cause harm to him and his family members.

“He tried to kill me and my family. I have the proof, but I no dey chase clout,” he posted.

“He has apologised, and I have agreed not to press charges. Make una mind una business make the poor guy no lose him job.”
