JUST IN: Kano State government dismisses head of Pilgrims Board

Less than 24 hours after assuming office, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State took swift action and relieved Muhammad Abba Danbatta of his duties as the Executive Secretary of the State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board in the early hours of Tuesday.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, confirmed this through a press statement and further announced the appointment of Alhaji Laminu Rabiu as the new Executive Secretary of the State Pilgrims Board.

Additionally, Sheikh Abdullahi Saleh Pakistan, the Chairman of the Pilgrims Board, was also replaced by Alhaji Yusuf Lawan, as directed by Governor Yusuf.

Among the individuals affected by the dismissals is Malama Nana Aisha, the daughter of the late Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Jafar Mahmud Adam.

In addition, the statement announced the appointment of new members to the board, which includes Sheikh Abbas Abubakar Daneji, Sheikh Shehi Shehi Maihula, Munir Lawan, Sheikh Isma’il Mangu, Hajia Aishatu Munir Matawalle, and Dr Sani Ashir.

The newly appointed members are expected to assume their responsibilities immediately and take charge of the board’s operations. Their primary focus will be to ensure the smooth and successful execution of the 2023 Hajj pilgrimage.
