Masquerade In Osun
Masqueraders in osun and their Egungun festival. Mr Kehinde Longe, the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, has mediated a truce between the Chief Imam of the Kamaudeen Mosque in Osogbo, Alhaji Kasim Yunis, and the custodian of a masquerade, Chief Kayode Esuleke, while the annual Egungun masquerade takes place in town.
According to a statement issued in Osogbo on Thursday by the command’s spokesman, Yemisi Opalola, the two men resolved to enable peace to rule throughout the holiday after a meeting called by the CP.
Members of the Kamaudeen Mosque and followers of the Esuleke masquerade had a history of dangerous fights, the most recent of which being the bloody brawl on Sunday, June 27, 2021, which resulted in the death of a mosque member and the injury of nine others.
Longe, who emphasized the need of embracing peace at the conference, also cautioned that the command would not tolerate any conduct that could lead to a breakdown of public peace.
“The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, Patrick K. Longe, held a strategic security meeting with the masquerade custodian, Pa Esuleke, and the Chief Imam of the Kamaudeen Mosque, Oke Baale, Osogbo, Alhaji Kasim Yunis,” the statement continued.
“CP restated that he will not condone anything that will cause the breach of peace in anyway.
