In a recent incident near Costain Round-About, Surulere area of Lagos, a driver of a Volkswagen ‘T4’ danfo bus, bearing the number plate LSR 966 YE, was apprehended by operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Nigeria Police. The driver allegedly stabbed a LASTMA officer, identified as Olajide Olukoga, during an enforcement operation aimed at curbing serious traffic obstructions caused by drivers picking up passengers on the main expressway. This incident followed numerous warnings by the state government to utilize designated bus stops for passenger pick-up and drop-off.

Olajide Olukoga, who led the enforcement team, recounted the harrowing experience, stating, “Our enforcement team had successfully apprehended the driver while trying to escape after dangerous driving, brought out a knife and stabbed me in the process.” The gravity of the situation prompted the driver to further escalate the incident by stripping himself naked, causing widespread commotion. He was eventually apprehended by diligent Policemen from Iponri Police Station, whereupon dangerous weapons including a cutlass and a knife were discovered in his commercial Volkswagen ‘T4’ bus.

This startling event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and utilizing designated stops for passenger-related activities. The Lagos State government’s persistent efforts to enforce these regulations reflect a commitment to maintaining order and safety on the roads
