OAU reduces tuition fees, allows payment in Two installment
In a significant development, the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, has announced a revision of the tuition fees structure for its students. This adjustment, disclosed by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, comes in response to earlier protests by students against a tuition increase across all faculties.
The decision follows a meeting held on Monday, September 25, 2023, between the University management and the leadership of the Students’ Union. During the meeting, the Students’ Union leaders advocated for a 50% reduction in charges, while the OAU management clarified that the new fees were the minimum required for efficient operations.
As a result, Professor Adebayo Simeon BAMIRE, the Vice Chancellor OAU, announced the revised charges as follows:
– Returning students in Humanities will now pay N76,000 instead of the initial N89,200. New students in Humanities will pay N131,000 instead of the initial N151,200.
– Returning students in Sciences and Technology will pay N86,000 instead of the initial N101,200. New students in the same faculties will pay N141,000 instead of the initial N163,200.
– Returning students in Pharmacy and College of Health Sciences will now pay N109,000, down from N128,200. New students in these faculties will pay N164,000 instead of the initial N190,000.
The University portal is now accessible for students to make their payments, and the management has approved the option of paying in two equal installments.
This decision marks a significant step in addressing the concerns of the student body and ensuring accessibility to quality education at OAU. Students can now proceed with their academic pursuits with greater financial ease.
