My name is KEHINDE IBRAHIM BANOKOLE, hailing from OGUN state. By profession, I craft fine furniture. And my Instagram ID is @Mckennedy1_
2. How did you get started in skit-making and hype-man activities?
In 2018, I was inspired by the work of Mark Angel Comedy, which led me to delve into skit-making. Later on, while creating birthday shout-out skits, I discovered my knack for hyping up a crowd.
3. What inspired you to combine skit-making and being a hype man? How do these two elements complement each other in your performances?
Both skit-making and hyping revolve around entertaining people, whether in person or through media. The fusion allows me to engage audiences on different fronts, offering a well-rounded entertainment experience.
4. Could you walk us through your creative process when coming up with skit ideas? How do you ensure they’re engaging and entertaining for your audience?
When crafting skits, I draw inspiration from everyday occurrences in my vicinity that resonate with my fans. I infuse humor and moral lessons, often drawing from childhood experiences with parents and visitors.
5. As a hype man, how do you use your energy and presence to elevate the atmosphere during performances? What techniques do you find most effective in getting the crowd excited?
Being a hype man is about embodying the right mood, regardless of personal feelings. I believe anyone attending an entertainment event craves a memorable experience. I adapt my approach based on the audience, tailoring my energy and song choices to resonate with them.
6. What kind of content or themes do you like to explore in your skits?
I often delve into issues pertinent to Africa, local habits, and aspects of life in the trenches.
7. How do you ensure they resonate with your target audience?
Creating unique backdrops for my content is key. The initial visual impact draws viewers in, helping establish that connection right from the start.
8. How do you handle challenges, especially unexpected situations that may arise during a performance or skit recording?
Challenges are opportunities for growth. When faced with unexpected hurdles, I approach them with a positive mindset, seeking creative solutions to overcome them and protect the longevity of my career.
9. Can you share an example of a memorable moment and how you navigated it?
In the early days, lacking the resources for quality video production was a significant hurdle. It took immense determination to secure the right equipment. Additionally, there were times when I had to take on construction work to finance my journey to distant shows.
10. Are there specific artists, performers, or skit-makers who have influenced or inspired your style?
Mark Angel Comedy was my initial inspiration, and Hype Man Tobi Shang played a significant role in shaping my approach.
11. How do you incorporate those influences into your own work?
The realization that platforms like YouTube offered substantial rewards motivated me to turn my passion into a profession.
12. Can you tell us about a particularly successful skit or performance you’ve been a part of?
I had the privilege of contributing to the renowned Nollywood movie, “TOUGH LOVE,” produced by the esteemed Biodun Stephen, a giant in the Nigerian film industry.
13. What elements contributed to its success?
Being part of a production by one of Nigeria’s leading television networks undoubtedly played a crucial role in its success.
14. How do you balance being a hype man and a skit-maker?
Balancing both roles isn’t without its challenges, but I manage my time meticulously, allocating it to shooting, editing, and my hyping engagements.
15. Are there certain strategies or techniques you use to ensure both aspects of your craft receive equal attention and energy?
Given that preferences vary, I acknowledge that some fans may lean towards my skits while others favor my hyping. It’s about understanding and appreciating the diversity of my audience.
16. What advice would you give to aspiring skit-makers and hype men who are looking to make their mark in the industry?
Stay focused, maintain integrity in all your endeavors to shield against negativity, and above all, be consistent in your work. This steadfastness will pave the way for your success when the time is right.
