In a strong statement addressing recent attempts to belittle the revered Obaship institution in Yorubaland, the prominent socio-cultural group Afenifere has called for a public apology from former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Emphasizing the significance of tradition in defining their identity, Afenifere insists on safeguarding this noble heritage. Furthermore, the group proposes a departure from the practice of royal fathers standing at public functions, as is customary in the United Kingdom and other nations.

Afenifere also turns its attention to the escalating issues of insecurity and banditry plaguing the nation, urging the Federal Government and security agencies to take resolute and proactive measures. The group outlines four recommended strategies for an immediate deployment of anti-terrorism resources, alongside enhanced incentives for security personnel and active involvement of local leaders in troubled regions. Additionally, Afenifere stresses the imperative of creating viable opportunities for the youth, thereby diverting them from engaging in anti-social and criminal activities. The group calls for swift and thorough adjudication of cases related to banditry and terrorism, advocating for stringent penalties for perpetrators.
