US rejects mideast ceasefire calls, citing concerns over Hamas benefit.
The United States has expressed reservations regarding calls for a Gaza ceasefire by Israel, asserting that such a pause would potentially bolster Hamas. State Department spokesperson, Matthew Miller, emphasized that a ceasefire might grant Hamas the opportunity to regroup and plan further attacks on Israel. The US is concurrently focused on ensuring the continuous flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza, with envoy David Satterfield actively engaged in relief efforts. Meanwhile, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell anticipates support for a humanitarian pause to enable the delivery of aid and shelter for displaced individuals.
