MTN response over sim debt cancellation. MTN, the mobile telecommunications operator, has described the recent debt cancelation status on its users’ networks as a system malfunction.

On Saturday, the network provider announced this via a tweet on its official X (previously Twitter) account.

The company stated that an unexpected glitch in its system resulted in the cancellation of debt due by its network subscribers, while emphasizing that the debt position remained intact.

Remember that many Netizens were pleased with the debt elimination, with many believing that MTN purposefully wiped their debts.

“Debt has been paid,” one user, Fatai, stated. Check your MTN account, MTN don clear una gbese.”

“What a time to be alive,” commented another user, Ikechukwu Amara. My N5,000 debt has been canceled, and I believed it was a joke until I did it myself.”

Another X user, Too Cute, stated that MTN is doing freebies to its consumers around the country, which is why they canceled all debt owing.

One Bukola, on the other hand, stated that MTN could never give something away for free without benefiting in the end, adding, “Una dey trust company for this country.” How would MTN, which is undergoing an economic downturn, waste such a large sum of money from Nigerians? How are they going to make it up? This one’s a Shege pro max for all of Anu to see (sic).

MTN responded on their help page, writing, “Yello, we are aware that some of our customers’ xtratime debt has been cleared.” It was a system glitch, the airtime was not cleared.

“The issue is receiving attention from our support team and feedback will be shared once received. Thank you,” it stated.
