Gov of Gombe mourns over LG caretaker chairman. Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya says he was deeply saddened to learn of Alhaji Aliyu Haruna’s death.

Haruna, 58, reportedly died on Tuesday in an Egyptian hospital where he was undergoing treatment.

Yahaya made the announcement in a statement signed by the Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Misilli, who also stated that details about the funeral prayer would be transmitted in due course.

“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the demise of Alhaji Aliyu Usman Haruna, the caretaker chairman of Gombe Local Government Council,” Yahaya stated in a statement.

In his reaction to the tragic news, the governor termed the chairman’s death as a colossal loss, not just to his family but also to the state and Nigeria as a whole.

Yahaya characterized the deceased as a confidant, honest, and devoted colleague, making his loss all the more personal.

He stated that the death of the Gombe Local Government Chairman is felt throughout the state and not only in one locality.

Alhaji Haruna was recalled affectionately by Yahaya as a humble, humanitarian, and exceptional politician and leader who diligently served the nation in numerous positions, leaving an everlasting effect on the lives of many.

The governor sent his profound condolences to the deceased’s immediate family, the people of Gombe Local Government, and the whole state.

“Alhaji Aliyu Haruna’s leadership qualities and commitment to the welfare of his people were evident throughout his tenure as elected and acting Chairman of Gombe Local Government Council, as well as in many other positions he held.”

“As we mourn this huge loss, we pray to Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and reward his good deeds with Aljannat Firdaus,” the statement stated in part.

Alhaji Aliyu Haruna, popularly known as Ali Ashaka, died on June 2, 1965, leaving behind two wives and sixteen children.
