Governor Ademola Adeleke
Curfew lifted in Osun state – Gov Adeleke. Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has ordered that the curfew imposed on Irepodun and Orolu Local Government Areas be lifted beginning Wednesday.
The mandate was contained in a communiqué obtained in Osogbo on Tuesday and signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr Kolapo Alimi.
Adeleke ordered a 24-hour curfew on the two local government districts on October 6, following fatal confrontations over a boundary dispute that cost lives and destroyed property.
According to the commissioner, the curfew was removed once the government determined that peace and order had returned to the impacted communities.
The statement said, “Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has welcomed the restoration of peace to the communities of Ifon and Ilobu in the Irepodun local government area.”
“To that end, the curfew previously imposed by the Executive Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, in his Executive capacity as the state’s Chief Security Officer, is hereby lifted with immediate effect, effective tomorrow, Wednesday, December 20, 2023.”
“While the Osun State Government truly recognizes that long-term peace and order appear to have been restored, the eagle-eyed joint security task force in the two communities should continue to strictly observe and maintain 24-hour surveillance.”
“Government uses this opportunity, to once again, thank and appreciate all those, who, in one way or the other contributed to the restoration of peace and order, before, during, and after the unfortunate communal skirmishes.”
