Aiyedatiwa alleged to disrespect Akeredolu’s legacy – Ondo Reps

The All Progressives Congress lawmakers in the House of Representatives, aligned with the late Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, have urged President Tinubu to intervene and caution Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for what they perceive as disrespect towards their deceased leader.

Following the passing of Akeredolu on December 27, 2023, Aiyedatiwa assumed the position of governor of Ondo State. In an open letter addressed to President Tinubu and signed by six lawmakers, including Adesida Abiodun, Timehin Adelegbe, Festus Ayodele, Ojogo Kimikanboh, Odimayo John, and Adegboyega Adefarati, the lawmakers expressed concern over Aiyedatiwa’s alleged disregard for Akeredolu’s legacies.

During a press briefing in Abuja, Adesida, the caucus leader, called on President Tinubu to address the issue to safeguard the integrity of the ruling party, especially with the upcoming governorship election in November.

The lawmakers accused Aiyedatiwa of making official decisions that demonstrate a lack of respect for the late Akeredolu’s achievements and principles. They highlighted the appointment of political adversaries of Akeredolu and alleged marginalization of party members as evidence of Aiyedatiwa’s divisive leadership.

Responding to the accusations, the lawmaker representing Ondo East/Ondo West Federal Constituency, Mr. Abiola Makinde, criticized his colleagues, questioning their sudden display of loyalty to Akeredolu after his demise. Makinde labeled their concerns as insincere and accused them of attempting to create a crisis within the party.

In a statement, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan, declined to comment on the matter. However, the deputy governor, Adelami, refuted allegations of being an enemy of the late Governor Akeredolu, describing them as malicious and false.

According to Adelami’s Press Secretary, Mr. John Paul Akinduro, Adelami has always been a strong supporter and ally of Akeredolu, providing both moral and financial support during the late governor’s tenure.
