Justice Served: Man sentenced to death for the murder of wife’s lover
An Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti Division, has delivered a verdict of death by hanging for a 28-year-old man, Ayodeji Alomoge, who was found guilty of murdering a man having an affair with his wife.
Alomoge faced trial on a charge of murder, accused of the killing which occurred on June 21, 2022, in Ikere Ekiti. The charge stated that he unlawfully caused the death of one Ogunleye Ayomide, in contravention of Section 234 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The victim’s father, Ige Ogunleye, recounted to the police that he received a distressing call informing him of his son’s severe beating at the hands of Alomoge and his associates. Rushing to the scene, he found his son grievously injured, lying in a pool of blood. Alomoge admitted to attacking Ayomide, citing his wife’s infidelity as the motive. Despite efforts to save Ayomide, he succumbed to his injuries at the University Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State.
During the trial, the prosecutor, Kunle-Shina Adeyemo, presented five witnesses and submitted evidence including the defendant’s statements, images of the deceased, and a medical report detailing the cause of death.
In his defense, Alomoge’s lawyer, Adeyinka Opaleke, appealed for leniency, emphasizing the emotional turmoil his client endured. However, Justice Jubril Aladejana, in delivering the judgment on Thursday, deemed the act premeditated and unjustifiable. He found Alomoge guilty of murder, dismissing any argument of provocation.
Consequently, the court sentenced Ayodeji Alomoge to death by hanging, affirming that such acts of violence cannot be condoned in society.
