Health concerns mount for detained IPOB leader, calls for release intensify
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is amplifying its plea for the release of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, citing grave health concerns while in detention. In a recent statement issued by IPOB spokesman Emma Powerful, the group highlights Kanu’s deteriorating health conditions within the confines of detention facilities.
According to Powerful, Kanu’s health has significantly worsened during his time in custody, with allegations of inadequate medical care and the use of experimental drugs by the Department of State Services (DSS). The statement condemns what it describes as a systematic plan by the Federal Government to endanger Kanu’s life through neglect and substandard medical attention.
Emphasizing Kanu’s innocence, IPOB underscores the urgency of his release, urging the international community to intervene and prevent what they perceive as a potential tragedy. The group asserts that Kanu’s well-being is not only a humanitarian concern but also a pivotal factor in Nigeria’s stability, warning against the repercussions of any harm befalling him while in custody.
In a related development, certain members of the House of Representatives from the South-East region have joined the chorus, advocating for the discontinuation of Kanu’s trial.
