Ekiti Governor disburses N1.2bn gratuity to retirees

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, announced on Tuesday the release of N1.2bn in gratuity arrears to retired local government workers and primary school teachers over the past 15 months. Expressing concern for the plight of pensioners awaiting their dues for years, Governor Oyebanji pledged to expedite the payment process to ensure all retirees receive their entitlements promptly. Presenting gratuity cheques to the beneficiaries in Ado Ekiti, the governor reassured them of continued efforts to clear outstanding payments, increasing the monthly allocation for gratuity from N50m to N100m to facilitate this endeavor. He emphasized the government’s commitment to peace and security as foundational elements for attracting investors and fostering sustainable economic growth. The Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Chief Folorunso Olabode, commended the governor for doubling the monthly gratuity payment, while Mr. Joel Akinola, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Ekiti State Chapter, expressed gratitude for the governor’s support and optimism that the backlog of arrears would soon be resolved. Akinola urged retirees to take advantage of the free health services provided by the government to enhance their well-being. This significant step underscores the administration’s dedication to prioritizing the welfare of retirees and ensuring their financial security in retirement.
