Wike speaks out on demolition controversy
Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, has shed light on the contentious issue surrounding the demolition of Chief Nicholas Ukachukwu’s property in Abuja. Ukachukwu, the Chairman and CEO of SNECOU Group Limited, lamented the demolition of his investment on 214 hectares of land in Asokoro district, accusing Wike of ordering the demolition without any court order despite pending valid court orders.
In a recent interview, Ukachukwu called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene, alleging that the demolition was targeted at him because he is Igbo, rather than due to any violation of the law by his company.
Responding to the allegations, Wike clarified that the land allocated to Ukachukwu did not receive approval from any minister, including his predecessor. He emphasized the rampant issue of land-grabbing in Abuja, attributing it to compromised officials in the land department of the ministry.
Wike expressed frustration with fraudulent practices, citing instances where individuals colluded with plaintiffs against the FCTA, hindering the execution of projects and leading to legal battles. He condemned the ethnic narrative woven into the controversy, urging for unity and accountability regardless of ethnicity or religion.
The minister highlighted the need for decisive action to address corruption and ensure fair treatment for all citizens, emphasizing the importance of upholding the rule of law and avoiding divisive rhetoric.
