In a show of solidarity and support, Afrobeat star Davido has thrown his weight behind renowned Nigerian chess master Tunde Onakoya as he endeavors to break the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon. Onakoya, accompanied by other notable figures like Adekunle Gold, Nigeria’s Consul-General in New York City, Ambassador Peter Egopija, and Omoyele Sowore, is currently engaged in a grueling chess marathon at New York City’s Times Square.

Providing live updates on his progress, Onakoya revealed that he has completed 100 games so far, with 87 against his primary opponent #CoachShawnMar and 13 against external challengers. The clock ticks on as Onakoya enters the 31st hour of gameplay, with 27 hours remaining to achieve his ambitious goal. The atmosphere is charged with anticipation as supporters eagerly watch Onakoya’s every move.

The event kicked off at 10 am on Wednesday, April 17, and is slated to conclude at 8 pm on April 19. Onakoya’s objective is clear: to play for an unprecedented 58 hours without suffering a single defeat. This would surpass the current Guinness World Record held by Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad of Norway, set at 56 hours, 9 minutes, and 37 seconds.

As the chess pieces move across the board, Onakoya remains focused and determined, fueled by the unwavering encouragement of his supporters. With each passing hour, the possibility of etching his name into history becomes more tangible

Marathon, Guinness World Record, Davido cheers
