New Customary Court president sworn in by Governor Makinde
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, officiated the swearing-in ceremony of Justice Tajudeen Abdulganiyu as the new President of the Oyo State Customary Court of Appeal. The event took place at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, the state capital.
Governor Makinde reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to supporting the judiciary and legislative branches, emphasizing the importance of a collaborative approach in maintaining a functional system. He highlighted the administration’s track record of fostering a harmonious relationship with the judiciary over the past five years.
Emphasizing the merit-based selection process, Governor Makinde affirmed that Justice Abdulganiyu’s appointment was devoid of political, religious, or ethnic considerations. He emphasized the importance of adhering to due process, regardless of personal affiliations.
Addressing the youth, Governor Makinde encouraged patience and perseverance in the pursuit of long-term goals, cautioning against the allure of quick wealth.
Following the swearing-in ceremony, Justice Abdulganiyu expressed his commitment to upholding customary laws, stressing their enforceability and significance. He pledged to enhance the functionality of the Customary Court, ensuring its continued relevance and effectiveness.
Dignitaries present at the event included the state Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal; Speaker of the House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin; Chief Judge of the state, Justice Iyabo Yerima; and Secretary to the State Government, Olanike Adeyemo, among others.
