PDP Reps divided over NEC’s decision on Damagum.

While this decision aligns with the aspirations of Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, who seeks to influence the party’s direction for the 2027 general election, a faction of lawmakers sympathetic to Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, remains determined to oust Damagum.

Representing 60 PDP lawmakers, Ikenga Ugochinyere previously called for Damagum’s removal, alleging anti-party activities and collusion with the ruling party. Despite this, the NEC granted Damagum an extension, leading to speculation that calm has been restored within the PDP House caucus.

Speaking on the matter, Oluwole Oke, representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Osun State, expressed optimism about accepting NEC’s decision, though suggesting better consultation within the party caucus.

However, Ugochinyere insists that his group finds the extension unacceptable and is considering further action, either through advocacy or legal means.

Additionally, following the withdrawal of a suit challenging his suspension as PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu’s patriotism was commended, prompting the Ugochinyere group to demand a successor from the North Central zone. Speculations link Gabriel Suswam and Bukola Saraki to the position.
