Three dead, Two injured in Kano building collapse
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed a tragic incident of a building collapse in Kuntau Quarters, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano, resulting in three fatalities and two injuries.
Dr. Nuradeen Abdullahi, NEMA’s Kano Territorial Coordinator, provided details of the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday, expressing condolences to the affected families.
Abdullahi stated that the collapse occurred in a three-storey building under construction, prompting NEMA’s swift response to the distress call received from a concerned citizen at approximately 9:20 a.m.
Rescue efforts were immediately initiated, with five individuals successfully rescued and transported to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital. Tragically, three of the rescued individuals succumbed to their injuries, while the remaining two are currently receiving medical treatment.
The ongoing search and rescue operation involves collaboration between NEMA, Kano State Fire Service, Police, Red Cross, NSCDC, and SEMA to ensure the safety of any remaining trapped victims.
