EFCC apprehends 21 suspected internet fraudsters in Uyo
Operatives from the Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have detained 21 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The agency’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, revealed that the suspected cybercriminals were apprehended at various locations within Akwa Ibom State. According to a statement released by the EFCC on Thursday, five suspects were captured at the ‘Laundering Lounge’ in Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo, on Monday, May 6, 2024, while 16 others were arrested on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Church Road, off Calabar Itu Road, Uyo.
Among the seized items were two luxury cars, nine laptops, 28 smartphones, and two wristwatches. The suspects will face charges in court once investigations are completed.
