Internet fraudsters apprehended in Akwa Ibom by EFCC
Operatives from the Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested eight individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud in Akwa Ibom state. The arrests took place on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Osongama Extension, following actionable intelligence received by the commission.
According to Mr. Dele Oyewale, the EFCC Spokesperson, the suspects were apprehended based on credible information regarding their alleged involvement in internet fraud. Upon their arrest, law enforcement recovered seven laptops, 13 smartphones, two wristwatches, and one router from the suspects.
Oyewale stated that the commission would conduct thorough investigations before charging the suspects to court, emphasizing the EFCC’s commitment to combatting cybercrime in Nigeria.
