Intruders attack Okuama-Ewu: 1 dead, 3 injured as soldiers withdraw

Just 24 hours after the Nigerian Army withdrew from Okuama-Ewu Community in Delta State, suspected intruders attacked the area, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to three others. The assailants allegedly encroached on the community to loot zinc, iron, rods, and related scraps.

According to reports, soldiers began withdrawing from Okuama-Ewu on Monday and completed the pullout on Wednesday after negotiations between Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Army authorities. Soon after the withdrawal, youths from neighboring villages took advantage of the absence of soldiers and ventured into Okuama-Ewu to scavenge for valuable items to sell.

Meanwhile, residents of Akugbene community in Bomadi Local Government Area raised concerns about one of their members who went missing during the attack. According to a community leader, efforts are ongoing to locate the missing individual.

Despite the withdrawal of soldiers, community leaders emphasize the need to maintain peace and await further directives from the government before returning to Okuama-Ewu. They express disappointment at the actions of the scavengers who took advantage of the situation to loot the area.
