Tribunal Affirms Uzodimma.
The Imo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja has affirmed Hope Uzodimma as the governor of Imo State. In a unanimous decision delivered by Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay’s three-member panel, the tribunal ruled that Uzodimma’s election complied with the Electoral Act.
This judgment dismissed the petition by the Labour Party and its candidate, Athan Achonu. In the 2022 election, the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress the winner with 540,308 votes.
Senator Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party garnered 71,503 votes, while Achonu came third with 64,081 votes. Dissatisfied with the outcome, Achonu challenged the election, alleging electoral malpractices in certain areas of the state.
