Historic appointment: AIG Longe becomes first female Force Secretary
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has named Assistant Inspector General of Police, Yetunde Longe, as the first female Force Secretary.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuiya Adejobi, emphasized that the appointment was a significant step towards ensuring gender inclusivity and equality in all aspects of appointments and operations within the Nigeria Police Force.
Adejobi highlighted Longe’s extensive experience, expertise, and exceptional dedication within the Nigeria Police Force, citing her Bachelor’s Degree in Forensic Toxicology and participation in advanced courses like the Advanced Detective Course and Intermediate Command Course.
AIG Longe has held several key positions since her appointment as a Cadet ASP on March 3, 1990, including Deputy Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lagos and Bauchi States, Commissioner of Police for the Port Authority Police, Eastern Command, Port Harcourt, and later Assistant Inspector General of Police in the Department of Training and Development, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Egbetokun reiterated the crucial role of women in strategic positions for the comprehensive development and effectiveness of the Force, emphasizing the non-negotiable principle of gender sensitivity in police appointments and operations.
He further expressed the commitment of the administration to promote gender equality and empower female officers to attain leadership positions within the Force, fostering an inclusive environment where merit and capability are the primary criteria for advancement, irrespective of gender.
