Amaechi’s political Influence wanes in Rivers state
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has disclosed that former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has experienced a significant decline in his political following, with over 70% of his supporters withdrawing their allegiance. The Secretary of the State APC Caretaker Committee, Eric Nwibani, highlighted Amaechi’s loss of three consecutive election cycles from 2015 to 2023, despite his prominent roles within the party and previous government positions.
Nwibani emphasized that instead of lashing out at those who departed to work with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Amaechi should reflect on the reasons behind the exodus from his political camp. He cited Amaechi’s failure to fulfill promises made to families of individuals who lost their lives during a campaign rally in 2019, portraying Amaechi as a leader who carries bitterness and is unable to accept defeat gracefully.
Furthermore, the Publicity Secretary of the APC, Chibuike Ikenga, indicated that the party is evaluating a court judgment affirming the continued membership of 27 Pro-Wike lawmakers within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Ikenga stated that the party leadership is deliberating on the appropriate course of action based on legal counsel.
