FG and Cross River State collaborate to combat illegal mining
The Federal Government, in partnership with Cross River State, has intensified efforts to address illegal mining activities and enhance the regulation of the mining sector. The Ministry of Solid Minerals Development and Cross River State are working together to create a conducive environment for investors and secure mining areas.
During a meeting with Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the federal government and subnational authorities to sanitize the mining sector. Governor Otu reaffirmed the state’s commitment to leveraging its mineral resources for development and highlighted the need to combat illegal mining activities through informed decision-making and public-private partnerships.
Illegal mining poses a significant challenge to the development of solid minerals in Nigeria, impacting the nation’s revenue and hindering sectoral growth. Dr. Alake has prioritized addressing illegal mining to ensure the country maximizes its mineral deposits and boosts revenues.
