The programme, though relatively new, is rapidly growing and encompasses topics such as consent, confidentiality, clinical negligence, mental health, public health, legal and ethical issues in reproduction, end-of-life issues, and research governance.

Through the Health Law and Policy programme, UNIMED has introduced the teaching of Medical Law into the undergraduate medical curriculum, marking a first in Nigerian medical education history.

At the postgraduate level, the University has established a Master’s degree programme in Health Law and Policy, with plans to offer doctoral degrees starting next academic year.

The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, is Nigeria’s first specialized medical and health sciences tertiary institution. Established in 2014 by the Dr. Olusegun Mimiko-led administration, UNIMED continues to lead in medical programmes aimed at reducing disease burdens through integrated education and high-quality research in health sciences. This is as published on the school website by the honorable assistant registrar of the noble citadel of learning Temitope Oluwatayo.
