Tinubu’s silence on Rivers state crisis draws criticism
The 21st-Century Youths of Niger Delta and Agitators with Conscience (21st CYNDAC) have expressed grave concerns over President Bola Tinubu’s lack of response to the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State. The group, led by Izon Ebi, has criticized the President for not addressing the issues caused by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
Ebi condemned Tinubu’s inaction, calling it “disturbing” and “unacceptable.” He stated that the root of the political unrest in Rivers State lies in the conflict between a political “godfather” and his “godson,” along with attempts to monopolize state resources for personal gain. The group warned that the President’s failure to act might lead to greater instability in the Niger Delta region, undermining his “Renewed Hope” agenda.
The statement further criticized the President for tacitly supporting Wike’s efforts to exert political control and for the security forces’ recent actions, which the group views as politically motivated and excessively partisan. They emphasized that no individual should be allowed to disrupt state governance or violate constitutional norms.
The group also underscored that the ongoing political crisis should not be attributed to the people of Rivers State, who support Governor Similaye Fubara’s administration. They stressed that security agencies should focus on identifying those responsible for escalating the unrest, rather than perpetuating the crisis.
