Coronation of King Charles III: Important Dates

The journey of Charles and Camilla from Buckingham Palace to the abbey will commence.

On Saturday, King Charles III and his wife Camilla will be crowned in a traditional event that will be celebrated with pomp and spectacle.

The anticipated schedule for the day is as follows:

Celebrations begin at 6:00 am (0500 GMT) as public viewing locations along the procession route in central London open.

Visitors arrive at security checkpoints for Westminster Abbey, where the ceremony will take place, between 7:15 and 8:30 am. Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, who represents all Anglicans worldwide, will preside over the ceremony.

Foreign dignitaries, political officials, foreign royals, and members of the British royal family arrive at Westminster Abbey between 9:30 and 10:45 a.m.

Charles and Camilla leave Buckingham Palace for the abbey at 10:20 a.m., escorted by members of the Household Cavalry, the king’s bodyguard, in the horse-drawn Diamond Jubilee State Coach.

The “King’s Procession” will go from Trafalgar Square to Westminster Abbey along the Mall, the avenue that runs from Buckingham Palace.

The royal couple arrives at Westminster Abbey at 10:53 a.m.

The service starts at 11:00 am as Charles and Camilla enter the monastery through the Great West Door. The state robe Charles will be donning is red velvet.

At 12 o’clock, Charles is given the St. Edward’s Crown by the Archbishop of Canterbury. To commemorate the event, trumpets sound around the nation, and ceremonial gun salutes are fired.

Service concludes in Westminster Abbey at 1:00 p.m. The king will be dressed in an estate robe made of purple silk velvet with gold embroidery when he exits the monastery.

As part of a wider ceremonial “Coronation Procession,” Charles and Camilla return to Buckingham Palace in the Gold State Coach while being pulled along at a walking speed.

Charles and Camilla arrive at Buckingham Palace at 13:33.

The military gives the newly crowned king and queen a royal salute in the palace gardens at 1:45 p.m.

Charles and Camilla, as well as other royal family members, gather on the palace balcony at 2:15 p.m. to view a flypast.
