Tinubu meets Oni, Sultan and other traditional rulers in Aso Rock Villa

President Bola Tinubu is currently engaged in a meeting with traditional rulers and their representatives from across the country at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

This gathering is part of a series of interactions the President has been conducting with key stakeholders from the executive, legislative, business, and traditional sectors since assuming office on May 29.

During this closed-door meeting, Tinubu is expected to address national healing and unity topics, as he emphasized in his inaugural speech. The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’adu Abubakar III, delivered the opening remarks and led his fellow traditional rulers to the meeting. The purpose of their visit is to congratulate the President and assure him of their support in the challenging task of nation-building.

The Sultan highlighted that the council of traditional rulers includes professionals from diverse fields, offering a valuable resource for the President to draw upon regarding expertise and knowledge.

The traditional rulers conveyed their confidence in Tinubu’s capacity to steer Nigeria towards progress, pledging their support to help transform his renewed hope agenda into tangible policies.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Adewusi, urged President Tinubu to actively engage the traditional rulers in addressing the issue of insecurity. the Ooni emphasized the importance of leveraging the expertise and influence of traditional institutions to tackle the challenges facing the nation.


“Mr. President, use us. Use us. Use us,” the monarch said.

At the meeting include Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senator George Akume (Secretary to the Government of the Federation), Tijjani Umar (State House Permanent Secretary), as well as prominent traditional rulers such as the Emir of Kano, Obi of Onitsha, Tor Tiv, Etsu Nupe, Deji of Akure, Shehu of Borno, Elegushi of Ikate, Jaja of Opobo, Lamido of Adamawa, Emir of Zazzau, Gbong Gwom Jos, Attah Igala, Alake of Egbaland, and a representative of the Oba of Benin. Their presence reflects the diverse representation of influential leaders from various regions across the country.
