Monarch seeks govt intervention as flood takes over Ondo. Residents of the Irese village in Ondo State’s Ifedore Local Government Area have urged the state government to find answers to the community’s ongoing flooding.
According to reports, flooding has taken over the town’s highways, making vehicular transit to and from the hamlet impossible.
Residents complained that the town’s lone ‘tarred road’ had been in disrepair for years and had been impassable since the rainy season began.
Speaking about the development, the monarch of Irese town, Oba Ahmed Saka, expressed concern about the dangers of driving on the road during the rainy season and urged the state government to help the community build a better road with drainages to prevent the community from being cut off as a result of the flood.
He further remarked that vehicle owners in town and commuters waste uncountable man-hours whenever the route gets flooded.
“Although we thank the state government for the ongoing construction of the Akure-Irese Road, it is a generous gesture and a welcome development by our people.”
“However, we are pleading that the same gesture be extended to Irese and other towns in Ifedore because this is the only road that connects the LGAs of Ifedore and Akure South.”
“By doing so, the issue of flooding taking over the community’s main road would be resolved, and residents would be able to breathe a sigh of relief without fear of their homes, shops, or businesses being submerged.”
In another flood reported in Lagos on Thursday 22nd, 2023, Residents of Shasha in Alimosho Local Government Area, Lagos State, complained about floods and blamed the former state Commissioner of Works, Rauf Aregbesola.
Muftao Oguntade, the Baale of Shasha, stated that Aregbesola had commanded the dam from Ajisebiara-Makka to Shasha to be released.
This situation has been ongoing for some time, and multiple complaints have been lodged at Alausa, but the neighborhood has received no assistance.
