Group- Removal of fuel subsidy step. Global Amnesty Watch applauded President Bola Tinubu for taking the audacious step of abolishing fuel subsidies.
The President, according to the organization, exhibited tremendous political will and a determination to openly face the country’s difficulties, freeing it from the clutches of gasoline importers and marketers.
This was noted by the GAW in its country situation report, signed by its director, Isaac Ikpa, and made public on Thursday in Abuja.
“One of the critical decisions taken by the Bola Tinubu administration was the announcement of the removal of the subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit,” according to the article.
“The Group applauds the decision, which reflects the urgency of the situation, given that the subsidy regime was unsustainable and riddled with irregularities that drained a large portion of the country’s resources, amounting to trillions of naira.”
“The elimination of the gasoline subsidy is a step in the right direction.” It was a show of strong political will and a desire to solve the country’s difficulties in a bold way that liberates the country from the clutches of gasoline importers and marketers.
“It is a statement that President Bola Tinubu’s decision is a step that will benefit the country economically.” This is on the heels of savings from subsidy elimination being channeled to other industries crying for attention.
“President Bola Tinubu’s action on subsidy removal did indeed send a positive signal to the international community about what to expect in terms of policy formulation and implementation in the years ahead,” the research concluded.
According to Ikpa, the actions made thus far demonstrate a willingness to address Nigeria’s socioeconomic difficulties and have restored faith in the country’s long-term growth and development.
He went on to say that the President’s recent trip to France shows that Nigeria is once again on the rise on the international stage, and that the international community has already showed a readiness to partner with the country in obvious ways.
On the economy, the Group stated, “The steps taken thus far with the suspension of the governor of the Central Bank and the reversal of some monetary policies have boosted investors’ confidence, resulting in improvements in the country’s economic rating.”
“The Global Amnesty Watch recognizes the necessity of the economic decisions made thus far, as well as their economic impact.” President Bola Tinubu understands the economic ramifications of inaction in solving the country’s economic difficulties.
The study also praised President Bola Tinubu for reorganizing security by naming new service chiefs and the National Security Adviser.
“The quality of the appointments was top-notch as it reflected balance and competence,” Ikpa said, adding that the President has taken the required steps to solve the country’s security concerns.
He charged the current administration, on the other hand, with ensuring the creation and implementation of policies and programs that would benefit all Nigerians, regardless of ethnic or religious connections.
