Threads App
Twitter and Meta Clash. Twitter has written to Meta, threatening legal action in relation to its new service, Threads.
According to the PUNCH, the app went live on Apple and Android app stores in 100 countries on Wednesday at 2300 GMT and will run without adverts for the time being, although its release in Europe has been delayed due to data protection concerns.
In a letter signed by Musk’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, and addressed to Mark Zuckerberg, said the company “has serious concerns that Meta Platforms (Meta) has engaged in systematic, willful, and unlawful misappropriation of Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property.”
“Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights, and demands that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information,” wrote Alex Spiro in the letter.
He also accused Meta of recruiting former Twitter employees who “had and continue to have access to Twitter’s trade secrets and other highly confidential information” in the letter, according to a Semafor report released on Thursday.
“No one on the Threads engineering team is a former Twitter employee — that’s just not a thing,” claimed Meta spokesperson Andy Stone in a Threads post.
Musk remarked in reaction to a tweet reporting the news, “Competition is fine, cheating is not,” in response to a tweet mentioning the news.
