President Tinubu travels to Nairobi for AU meeting. President Bola Tinubu has left Abuja for Nairobi, Kenya, where he will join other African leaders for the African Union’s 5th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting.
He was accompanied by Femi Gbajabiamila, his Chief of Staff, and Dele Alake, his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communication, and Strategy.
Tinubu will attend the meeting as both Nigeria’s President and the newly appointed Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States.
The meeting, titled “Acceleration of African Continental Free Trade Area Implementation,” will bring together the AU Assembly’s Bureau, which includes the heads of state and government from Comoros, Botswana, Burundi, and Senegal, as well as leaders from the eight Regional Economic Communities.
After the meeting, President Tinubu is likely to return to Nigeria.

Nigeria has successfully met its financial obligations to the African Union by paying the full amount of its assessed contributions for 2023.
Abiodun Oladunjoye, the Director of Information at the State House, made the announcement on Saturday.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Adamu Ibrahim Lamuwa, affirmed this during the 43rd Ordinary Session of the AU Executive Council in Nairobi, according to the statement.
Nigeria, along with four other member-states, is one of the AU’s major financial donors.
