Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi
Oluwo advises traditional rulers. Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo, called on traditional leaders on Saturday to allow indigenes from various areas of the country living in their realm.
Mrs Asmau Atanda, a granddaughter of the former Emir of Kano, Sir Muhammadu Sanusi I, received the chieftaincy title of ‘Yeye Otunba’ of Iwoland from the king.
Oba Akanbi bestowed the title of Otunba of Iwoland on Asmau’s husband, Alhaji Sikiru Wahab Atanda, in December 2020.
During the ceremony, Oluwo urged traditional leaders to set a good example and show love to everybody, particularly non-indigenous people residing in their domain.
He said, “They (traditional rulers) must lead by example and show love to everyone regardless of where they come from and this is what we are doing.
“The beauty of this country is our diverse culture and ethnicity and we still come together. We are taking a big step because this is what the foundation of Nigeria is built on. Traditional leaders should adopt every citizen living in their land as their own. They should not discriminate. When traditional leaders do that in this country, the love will not be lost.
“Like I always say, I am the Oba, Emir, Igwe and Eze, for all the people living in Iwo town because we have people from the northern and eastern parts of the country residing here. I am bringing back our heritage and I want us to know that a town is not made up of itself. Some migrants should be accommodated at all times.
