Security agencies thwart coup attempt against Burkina Faso junta leaders
In a decisive action, Burkina Faso’s intelligence and security services successfully thwarted a coup attempt against the country’s military rulers, announced authorities.
According to a statement released by Burkina Faso’s military rulers on Wednesday, a group of army officers and accomplices had conspired to seize power, potentially plunging the nation into a state of turmoil.
Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo, spokesperson for the ruling military, stated, “Officers and other alleged actors involved in this attempt at destabilisation have been arrested and others are actively sought,” though specific details were not provided.
This latest coup attempt unfolded on Tuesday, as outlined in the official statement. The military government expressed its commitment to thoroughly investigate the plot, emphasizing its disappointment that officers, sworn to protect their homeland, became entangled in such an endeavor.
Subsequently, the country’s military prosecutor disclosed that four individuals had been apprehended, while two remained at large. An investigation has been initiated based on “credible allegations about a plot against state security implicating officers,” stated the prosecutor.
This development underscores the ongoing challenges facing Burkina Faso, as its leaders work to ensure stability and security in the wake of recent political transitions
