INEC distributes materials in Kogi. Security has been tightened up around the Independent National Electoral Commission office in Kogi State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
This comes on the heels of the commission’s distribution of sensitive materials to local governments.
On Friday, the PUNCH noticed a large presence of military, police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps troops in the state capital as civilians went about their usual routines.
The Independent National Electoral Commission on Friday vowed to upload polling unit results on its INEC Result Viewing portal.
The commission also noted that it has made arrangements for land and maritime transportation to ensure that electoral materials are made available to ensure that voting commences on time.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Kogi state, Dr. Hale Longpet, made this known during a press briefing in Lokoja.
“As Election Day approaches, I wish to call on our officials (both regular and ad hoc) to demonstrate the highest level of patriotism and professionalism,” he stated. INEC is not a political party, as I have stated frequently, including during my recent readiness assessment visits to the three states, and we have no candidate in the election. Our role is to protect the process and ensure that all political parties and candidates have a level playing field.
Kogi State, along with Imo and Bayelsa, is one of three states taking part in the off-cycle election.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has distributed sensitive materials across the 21 Local Government Areas of Kogi State.
