Olukorede Adenewo appointed as new MD Firstbank UK. The FirstBank Group has named Olukorede Adenewo to the position of Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of its UK subsidiary, FirstBank UK.

The appointment became effective on November 16, 2023, subject to regulatory approvals, according to a statement issued on Wednesday.

 

Adenewo, according to the lender, “who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, strategic vision, and a deep understanding of the global financial landscape, brings a wealth of experience, built by a proven track record of success in the banking industry across several countries.”

Adenewo was previously the Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria. In 1999, he joined the bank’s Corporate Banking division. He held critical positions during his distinguished career, including MD/CEO of SCB Gambia, Deputy MD/CEO of SCB Cameroon, and MD of Corporate Commercial and Institutional Banking for SCB Nigeria and West Africa. He also served as a Non-Executive Director of SCB Gambia and SCB Sierra Leone, gaining considerable expertise as a Board member within the Chartered Bank Group over a 13-year period.

Adenewo began his career as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte Nigeria in 1991. In 2003, he was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, and in 2015, he earned a Distinguished Alumnus award from Deloitte Nigeria. He graduated from INSEAD and Oxford University’s Said Business School, where he received leadership management training.

He has an MBA from the University of Lagos.
