Sanwo-Olu devises means to solve water shortage. At a United Nations climate change summit side event in Dubai on Friday, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu called for long-term private and philanthropic funding to repair the state’s deficient water infrastructure.

Sanwo-Olu claimed that Lagos, with over 22 million residents, barely receives 210 million gallons of its 700 million daily potable water demands.

“Given our limited resources, it is truly a challenge, but we cannot continue to make excuses.” Underserved populations are feeling the effects of this divide, and the risk to the public is considerable,” he said.

Lagos, according to the governor, requires less than 1% of the worldwide $1.7 trillion clean water investment deficit.

Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State, addresses a side meeting on Friday, December 1, 2023, at the ongoing 28th session of the Conference of Parties (COP28) with the theme: “Valuing Water: A Lifeline in Climate Transition,” organized by the Business and Philanthropy Climate Forum and Sustainable Market Initiative at Dubai Exhibition Centre, UAE. Lagos Press Secretary (PC)
“I believe that this conversation will result in a long-term solution that will meet the needs of millions of people who want adequate water.” “Our goal is to persuade committed partners of the economic viability of their investments,” he continued.

According to Sanwo-Olu, intermittent energy also reduces installed capacity utilization below 40%, and she wants equality in channeling climate funds to places like Lagos, which have significant youth populations that are ripe for such impact funding.

“It doesn’t matter where we come from; we all need equal access and must be able to hold ourselves accountable on this.” “Equity must be a major focus of the global response in channeling resources,” he stated.

The theme “Valuing Water: A Lifeline in Climate Transition” is being organized at the ongoing 28th session of the Conference of Parties (COP28) at the Dubai Exhibition Centre by the Business and Philanthropy Climate Forum and the Sustainable Market Initiative.

At the COP28 climate negotiations’ Valuing Water discussion, anti-poverty organizations and corporations emphasized increased worldwide expenditures in clean water initiatives.
