Guinea-Bissau players
Final 25-man AFCON squad released – Guinea-Bissau . The Guinea-Bissau national football team’s head coach, Baciro Candé, has officially published the final roster of 25 players chosen to represent the country at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations next month.
Guinea-Bissau’s Djurtus are in Group A, where they will compete alongside host countries Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Nigeria.
Their voyage begins on January 13 with a match against the Elephants, followed by a potential winner-take-all meeting with the Equatorial Guineans on January 18. Finally, in their third match, they will face Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
Candé, the coach of Guinea-Bissau, has selected a roster of 25 players to defend the national colors in Ivory Coast.
Three goalkeepers, eight defenders, seven midfielders, and seven forwards make up the starting eleven.
Mama Baldé and Opa Sangante are two of these players who were involved in Guinea-Bissau’s surprising 1-0 triumph over the Super Eagles during the AFCON qualifiers in March.
As Nigeria stumbled to a humiliating loss at the National Stadium in Abuja, Dunkerque midfielder Sangante assisted Lyon forward Baldé to score the game’s only goal.
Three days later, however, the Super Eagles returned the favor with a 1-0 victory at the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro in Bissau, thanks to a Moses Simon penalty.
Nigeria will go on to win their final five group games, qualifying for Ivory Coast 2023 as one of the greatest teams and top attacking side.
The Super Eagles will look to repeat as AFCON champions when they meet Guinea-Bissau on matchday three.
The tournament’s 2023 edition begins on January 13 and runs until February 11, 2024.
