Why is Facebook down? Meta’s Social Media Outage
Social media users worldwide are facing frustration as Facebook and Instagram experience an unexpected glitch, leaving thousands unable to access their accounts. The issue, which began around 3:00pm, has caused widespread disruption, with both platforms displaying ‘session expired’ errors. As reports flood in, Downdetector indicates over 90,000 incidents for Facebook and 16,000 for Instagram, marking one of Meta’s most significant challenges in recent years.
While the cause of this remains unclear, users have turned to alternative platforms, with many flocking to X (formerly Twitter) to express their frustration. Comments such as “Facebook is Down. Can’t access my account,” and “Facebook Down/Instagram Down everything in Meta down,” highlight the impact on users globally.
Such widespread issues are rare for Meta’s platforms, and users are hopeful that the tech team is working tirelessly to resolve the glitch promptly. In addition to Facebook and Instagram, reports suggest that Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp are also affected by the outage.
