The Kwara State Government has urged the public to remain calm following allegations of the sale of poisonous meat at Mandate Market in Ilorin, the state capital. Concerns arose after reports emerged of the death of 33 cows suspected to have been poisoned, with their meat allegedly put up for sale. A group known as the “Kwara Monitoring Group (KMG)” raised the alarm and called for swift action from the Commissioners for Environment and Health, as well as the Kwara Environmental Protection Agency. The group highlighted the urgency of preventing the sale of the poisoned meat to unsuspecting consumers.

 

In response, government officials and experts, including the Commissioners for Health and Agriculture, visited Mandate Market to confiscate the suspected meat for laboratory tests. The government assured the public of its commitment to establishing the truth behind the allegations and commended the cooperation of market leaders. It emphasized the importance of awaiting further information while urging calm among residents.

 

A joint statement from the Commissioners for Health and Agriculture confirmed the government’s proactive steps in addressing the situation. They disclosed that a team had been dispatched to Mandate Market to confiscate the suspected meat and conduct laboratory tests to confirm the claims. The statement reiterated the government’s call for calm, assuring the public that updates would be provided as necessary. Additionally, the government praised the cooperation of market stakeholders in facilitating the investigation process.

 

As investigations continue, the Kwara State Government remains focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents. It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability in addressing public health concerns.
