Channels TV denounces fake Dangote video
Channels TV has distanced itself from a deepfake video featuring Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group, circulated by scammers to promote fraudulent investment schemes. The news platform clarified that it does not endorse any investment schemes and reaffirmed its commitment to journalistic integrity and ethical reporting.
The deepfake video, which went viral, was created using visuals from an episode of Channels TV’s programme “Lunchtime Politics.” Fraudsters manipulated the footage to include Aliko Dangote and edited a voice narrative to make their investment scheme appear genuine.
In a statement released on its official X handle, Channels TV emphasized that the doctored visuals were not endorsed by the network and warned the public against falling for fraudulent schemes using its identity.
The now-viral AI-generated lip-syncing video attempted to promote the scam during a recent broadcast of the Lunchtime Politics programme.
