Tinubu’s neutrality: Presidential spokesman affirms.
Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Bola Tinubu, reiterated that the President would maintain impartiality amid the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State.
During an interview on TVC last month, Ngelale underscored Tinubu’s commitment to neutrality in the protracted political feud between Wike and Fubara.
Although Tinubu previously intervened in the state’s political crisis in October 2023, facilitating a peace pact agreement, Ngelale emphasized that the President would not take sides in the current conflict.
“If they are banking on Mr. President to take sides on this matter, they’re mistaken and they’ll be disappointed,” Ngelale stated. “Mr. President will not do that.”
Ngelale emphasized Tinubu’s focus on ensuring a conducive environment for governance in Rivers State, devoid of interference that could hinder the delivery of democratic dividends to the people.
He urged stakeholders to prioritize governance over politics until the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
The recent controversy surrounding the proposed renovation of the state legislative quarters further escalated tensions between Fubara and Wike-aligned lawmakers.
Fubara’s announcement of renovation plans sparked concerns among lawmakers aligned with Wike, who feared it might serve as a pretext for demolition, reminiscent of past events at the House of Assembly.
Accusing Fubara of intimidation and disregard for the law, factional Speaker Martin Amaewhuke argued that the buildings were suitable for legislators and not subject to executive interference.
